Ages: 8 - 12

Discover the actor inside of you! This class is the first step to building confidence and a solid foundation in the art of acting. Students will learn basic theater skills in a supportive and creative environment. Learn how to answer the questions all actors must ask before they even pick up a script: Who? Where? What? Why? How? Students will share what they've learned in a Final Sharing for family and friends on the last day of the session!

Ivy's BIO:
Ivy Sunflower is an award-winning actress and director that brings her passion for storytelling to the classroom as a teaching artist at American Stage. In her "Acting Out" class, Ivy guides students through the fundamentals of theater and beyond, emphasizing authentic expression, ensemble storytelling and character development. In her "Lights, Camera, Action!" class, she unravels the art of on-screen presence, helping students connect in front of the lens and shine. Triple Threat: Sing, Act & Dance Workshop

Ages: 5 - 7

Explore your imagination and love for music and dance! Children will learn how to be a part of an ensemble while having so much fun re-imagining characters and stories from their favorite books! They will begin to use their bodies, voices, minds, and imaginations to create original, simple, mini musicals. The class will end with a final sharing of the songs and stories developed in class.

SOPHIA'S BIO:
Sophia Williar has been living and working in the St. Petersburg area since 2020. Sophia studied Theatre at the University of Tampa where she worked on many shows as an actor, a member of the tech crew, as well as assistant director. She also has a MAE from the University of Florida. When not teaching students at American Stage, you can find her running the Upper School Drama Program at Admiral Farragut Academy. She loves giving her students a voice and seeing how their creativity helps builds our sharings. Fun fact, her favorite food is donuts! She is passionate about arts education and is so excited to meet your students!

Broadway Baby: Youth Musical Theatre

Ages: 8 - 12

Musical theater is more than just singing and dancing; it's acting through a song. By using material from Broadway and movie musicals, your child will explore how to interpret a song and gain strong collaborative skills by working on group numbers. This class will culminate in a final sharing of their works in progress on the last day of the session.

Ryan's BIO:
Ryan Hill-Joustra is a singer, songwriter, actor, director, and teaching artist. She is a Berklee College of Music alum where she studied Contemporary Writing/Production and Vocal Performance. During her time at Berklee, she discovered a love for composing, arranging, and directing. She was heavily involved in the growing Musical Theater Performance and Writing Initiative at her alma mater. After college, Ryan spent time performing in various cities in Ohio before moving to Chicago where she attended classes at The Second City and began teaching private voice and musical theater classes. Since moving to St. Petersburg, she can be found teaching at American Stage (since 2019) and Creative Clay (since 2024). Ryan specializes in teaching musical theater and cabaret performances. She’s currently the music director/producing director and performer with sketch comedy group Dirty John’s

Lights! Camera! Action!: Acting for TV & Commercials

In this fun and creative class, kids will learn the basics for television and film acting by creating original commercials and scenes. Students will learn how to create characters through acting techniques and situations through scene analysis that will jump off the screen.
